Gilbert will next be performing in ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ at the Little Angel Theatre, London. He is also developing ‘Moomin Summer Madness’ with LAT, Royal & Derngate Theatre, Northampton & Polka Theatre. Recent work includes; Theatre Hullabaloo & Berry Theatre’s UK tour of ‘The Elves and the Shoemakers’, 'The Lonely One' with Dotted Line Theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe, dreamthinkspeaks’ ‘The Rest is Silence’, ‘Charlotte’s Web’ & Quentin Blake's 'All Join In', both at Polka Theatre. He appeared at the Globe in ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’ & in the last year has collaborated with danteordie, Nonesuch Theatre, Theatre Rites & with the Berry Theatre on ‘Hansel & Gretel’. He is currently working on two new shows: ‘White Canvas’ with Bespoke Taylors, Little Green Pig Writing Project & Passé-Muraile, which will premiere at the Cayeux Theatre Festival in France 2013 and ‘Three Tiny Seeds’ with Emma Higham.

He is a founder member of theatre collectives Unpacked & Chopped Logic. Gilbert has an MA from the Central School of Speech and Drama and a BA from the University of Surrey.

Going on a Bear Hunt

I am currently rehearsing Michael Rosen’s ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ at the Little Angel Theatre in Islington. It is a great place to work. Pete Glanville is directing, Barb Jungr is doing the songs and music and I am performing with George Williams, Lowri James and Jess Jones. It is going to be on 11th May to 21st July 2013.

‘White Canvas’ is the first show by my new company Bespoke Taylors. This is a company I have set up with Clare Dunn and is based in Brighton. This first project has been made in collaboration with Little Green Pig Writing Project and Ella Burns and has been devised using music, painting, dance & object puppetry. We performed the first version of the show at Les Moussaillons Festival in Cayeux-sur-Mer in France in February.

The show has been made possible with R&D funding from Arts Council South East, all at the Nightingale Theatre, Brighton Dome, Passe Muraille, Loucas Hajiantoni who composed the music, New Writing South, Jonathan Young, Janine Fletcher, Commotion Dance, The Point, Eastleigh & a little pack of Taylors!

Workshop in France at Les Moussaillon Festival

We did a workshop for five days with six children in Arrest France as part of Les Moussaillons Festival on the theme of Giant & Miniature with Clare Dunn and Joelle Loucif. It was great and we performed the end result, a 25 minute performance, to the village on the Friday. Here are some workshop shots.

I am in France working in Cayeux-sur-mer at LES MOUSSAILLONS festival. Me and Clare are here with our new company Bespoke Taylors and new show ‘White Canvas’ and have a van full of set and stuff! We have seen some shows already in this festival and from Monday to Friday we are doing workshops with Kids from the nearby village of Arrest with the wonderful scenographer Joelle Loucif who lives in Paris. The theme of the workshops are ‘Giant and Minature’ working with objects and the body and scenography. We perform our show at the Salles de fetes in Cayeux on Saturday 23rd in Cayeux-sur-mer.

Just been asked to work with the wonderful Hiccup Theatre Company; Sarah Brigham and Ivan Stott on their new show ’GRACE NOTES’ their experimental sound installation piece, for one family at a time to experience. This is for a week in March at the Point in Eastleigh and will be working with the wonderful Ed Wren. I will be taking the brass!

I am currently in Theatre Hullabaloo’s touring production of ‘The Elves & the Shoemakers’ directed by Sarah Brigham, written by Mike Kenny & music by Ivan Stott. We made the show at the Point in Eastleigh have been on the road for three weeks playing in theatres, schools and community centres around the UK, mainly in the north east.

Today we go to the Take Off Festival in Durham! This is a big showcase of theatre work for younge people and lots of people and artists from all over will be there! The show is great and I am tap dancing, puppeteering, playing trombone, ukulele & euphonium, singing and doing a bit of acting!
